Duke of Edinburgh Awards, Troon

24 Feb 2015

Gerry explains the seeds of the dream

On 24th February, Gerry gave a short speech at the Duke of Edinburgh Awards (DofE) Ceremony (in Troon) and presented the Gold Awards.   It was a fantastic evening. Gerry and Kay  really enjoyed meeting everyone but especially all the young people who have worked so hard to gain their Duke of Edinburgh Awards.  At the end of the evening, there was a special surprise for Gerry: he was presented with his very of DofE flag for use when he is sailing!

Gerry explained:

‘It was great night.  We all enjoyed ourselves but the highlight of the night was seeing all the young people receiving recognition for their hard work.   I could see that they all really enjoyed the meeting the challenges and opportunities that the Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme presented to them.  I am sure their parents, teachers and the DofE team are very proud of them. I want to say a special thank you to Vincent McWhirter for inviting me to the awards ceremony and congratulations to him for such a well organised event.’
