A message to Gerry

Chris Arscott was Race Director for the 2005 OSTAR and Commodore of the Royal Western Yacht Club. He is now the Immediate Past Commodore and Chairman  of the Plymouth Waterfront Partnership. Chris has sent the following message to Gerry:
“Hi Gerry,
Great to hear that you have nearly finished your amazing single - handed circumnavigation.
Just think this all began when you first contacted me to see if we would allow you to compete in the 2005 OSTAR. It was a "no brainer", despite your disability, your sailing CV was very comprehensive so why would we not allow you to compete and I personally am very glad we did.
The 2005 OSTAR was a very interesting race for all competitors but especially for you with your electrical problems. I think that the stress of loosing contact with you for such a long period of time significantly reduced my life expectancy !!!!!!
But in true fashion you arrived in Newport just after I had left for Boston airport. However, I knew very well that both Norm Bailey and Robin Wallace would give you a warm welcome and look after you.
Well have a safe and event free finish of your trip and enjoy the warm welcome that awaits you in Troon.
It would be great to see you in May at the RWYC for the meeting of the Half Crown Club if you can make it.
I know Norm Bailey will be over for the event and he would love to see you.
Stay safe,
Chris Arscott “
