EDF Youth Committee discussed its future activities and action plan on young people with disabilities

24 Nov 2008

The members of the Youth Committee held their annual meeting on 18 October 2008 in Brussels to define EDF activities with regards to young with disabilities. Three lines of action appeared essential: lobbying the European institutions on ongoing dossiers with regards to young with disabilities, implementing the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the European Youth Forum and mainstreaming the youth aspect within EDF representative structure and policies.

EDF Youth Committee agreed on the following actions :

  • to answer the European Commission public consultation on the future EU youth policies to raise awareness on measures concerning young with disabilities.
  • to participate in the European Youth Forum General Assembly on 15 November and will be represented by one of its member, Giovanni Padovani, to meet and discuss with people from the Secretariat and membership.
  • to comment and give a youth approach to future EDF documents, if and when appropriate, such as to the EDF manifesto for the European elections and renewal of the European Commission.
  • Identifying the lack of disabled young participants within the disability movement, EDF youth committee decided to launch in the coming months a survey within EDF membership to indentify obstacles and look for good practices to exchange.
